This is a dance performance by the young girls of Thamarai Edayanchavadi. Thamarai is the name given to a social center created by Auroville for the women and children of the nearby village of Edayanchavadi. Women of the village are given a space and tools for emancipating themselves, and children are provided with some education support and a space for artistic creativity. This dance prepared here by some of the girls attending Thamarai, is an example of what can be done without being professionals or constantly trained in dance.

This short film was first created to raise awareness and funds for Sadhana Forest, a community project in Auroville since 2003 and in Haiti since 2010. The video presents how the Sadhana forest team is countering water conservation and reforestation, the two main ecological issues of the 21st century. "It's not just about the physical effort... it's about keeping faith in your land," says Aviram, founder of Sadhana. "Just imagine what we can achieve with 10 or 20 or 50 Sadhana forests in all arid corners of the world..."

For the Tamil New year "Puthandu", celebrations in Auroville include a Cultural program with different types of dances, performed by young, talented students of schools of the Auroville area. This Odissi Dance is performed by a group of Udavi School students, trained and prepared by Kanchana.

Another dance performance for the Tamil New Year by students of an Auroville school. Karagattam, one of the oldest versions of folk dance in Tamil Nadu, defines the quintessential art of praising the Goddesses with fine balancing of decorated pots. Performed to please the rain and river deities, the dance form is aesthetically tuned by musical instruments and songs. With decorated pots filled with water on their head, the Karagattam dancers move with the rhythm of the music. The uniqueness of this dance form lies in the dexterous handling of pots by the dancers.
