The name is Jalshaghar. On Thursday 28th of July was their very first concert. Excellent and accomplished musicians from Auroville and Pondicherry musical communities had come together in an attempt to fuse Indian classical music with jazz. Sraddhalu Ranade is a scientist, educator and scholar at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram where he grew up in the care of the late Sri MP Pandit. He is presently involved in the production of video programs based on India's cultural roots, and conducts teacher-training programs based on a soul-centered approach to education. He has conducted numerous intensive teacher-training workshops on Integral and value-based education all over India. Over 4500 teachers from more than 200 schools and colleges have benefited from these programs. He has been involved in various research projects including artificial intelligence based on neural networks, multimedia search and retrieval, and educational tools. February 28, 1968 on a barren plateau of South India, in the State of Tamil Nadu, 124 countries of the world participate in the inauguration of Auroville, a project to set up an international city based on unity of mankind. Tibet is also present. In the years to come, the link between the people of Tibet and Auroville will grow and become stronger. On february 28, 2008 at dawn, in the amphitheatre where 40 years ago the ceremony for the foundation of Auroville took place, some 2000 people gathered to celebrate the anniversary witha bonfire (dawnfire) at sunrise. 40 years ago, handfuls of soil from all countries in the world were mixed together and sealed in the urn where still are, together with the Auroville Charter. This time, 40 years later, handfuls of soils were again gathered from all countries, to be mixed up during this ceremony, and the redistributed in the world, symbolizing that "Auroville does not belong to anybody in particular, but to humanity as a whole..." These images are, for reasons of time, only a few excerpts from a longer DVD filming of the event...

Savitri Bhavan is the "House of Savitri", being built in Auroville."Savitri" is the epic poem written by Sri Aurobindo, a great source of inspiration and joy, also a deep inner view of his vision. The building is proceeding towards completion: on the occasion of the 40th anniversary from the inauguration of Auroville, a new extension was inaugurated, and a statue of Sri Aurobindo at the entrance of the building. Here all materials regarding or connected to Savitri and, more generally, to the works of Sri Aurobindo and Mother,will be collected, studied, and enjoyed.
